My Business Journey
- Purchased Broome Dental Clinic, just two years after graduating from UWA. We won the Broome Business awards, best business with 3-6 employees. At this time, the clinic doubled its capacity from 1 dentist to two. We had a busy clinic, with dated equipment and no structure to the books. We did add tv’s to the ceiling in each surgery though!
- Still learning the ropes as a business owner, managing a team, working clinically full time and expanding my scope as a remote dentist, replaced 2 out of 3 dental chairs, and won Innovation and Diversification and Inspiration award for Broome Businesses 0-5 employees. This was the year the world was turned upside down by the global pandemic, causing huge restrictions on the services able to be offered by dental clinics throughout Australia and causing us to significantly reduce our capacity to only emergency dental patients for months. Despite these challenges, we came out stronger and more resilient with a thriving tourist season over the next 2 years!
- Created the first preventative care department in Broome and had 2x OHT’s join our team. This year, we introduced significantly more structure to the business and the clinical book, allocating set administration and team time to our books and a structured way of booking.
- We now have 3 dentists and expanded into a 4th dental clinical room. We made further structural advances in the business, with the implementation of communication pathways, organisational structure, team 1:1’s and mentoring as well as the introduction of injectables into the clinic. This year, we won Best Broome Business for 7-10 employees.
- DNTL Code was brought to life with a full rebrand, the addition of the dermal clinic and our first dedicated practice manager, solely employed to support the team and the operational side of the business. We also welcomed our first Patient Advocate, with a mission to educate patients, ensure they fully understand their treatment plans and costs associated with each treatment. Dr Steph spoke at the NSS about combining Dental and Dermal into our practice.
- Construction of a brand new custom built facility began! The introduction of a finance officer to allow greater clarity and organisation over the growing business, the addition of DC Academy, an online training platform for our team - with both clinical and non-clinical resources to help fulfil our philosophy of ‘always learning’ and having a highly skilled team. We appointed 3x dentists, 1x Hygienist, 2x dermal therapists and an injector. We added Wellness services to the business and grew to a team of 18. Dr Steph was a 40 under 40 recipient and DNTL Code won WA Regional Business of the Year. Dr Steph also represented 2x global brands as a speaker.
- Construction of the purpose built facility is set to be complete at the end of 2025. This will be in a brand new collaborative healthcare facility in Broome. We welcomed our first specialist Orthodontist to the team, the only rural-based orthodontist in WA, and also introduced implants directly to Broome, reducing the need to travel for treatment ... stay tuned for more to come!
